Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has delivered a positive verdict on the new wonderkid at Elland Road.

Mateusz Bogusz arrived from Ruch Chorzow in January and has settled into life in his new country quickly.

He’s put in a string of impressive performances for the Under-23s, including scoring in his last outing against Crystal Palace, and it’s left fans wanting to see him in the first-team.

Bielsa was asked about Bogusz in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday and he revealed that he liked what he saw in the Palace game.

“He’s a very young player,” Bielsa said, as quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post. “He has played a few games only. You need to use some analysis. But analysis you cannot do in some moments. He had a good performance in the last game.”

OPINION

It seems that everyone that sees Bogusz comes away saying good things. First it was a scout who had gone to the Under-23s game to look at Newcastle and left with Bogusz’ name on his lips. Then it was Mateusz Klich, who said that the youngster was probably going to be a better player than he was. Bielsa watches pretty much every Under-23s game and he’ll be very aware of what Bogusz can do, as well as wanting to protect him from the spotlight until he’s ready. Bogus will be 18 in the summer and it will be interesting to see which youngsters can the nod from Bielsa in the pre-season – if the maverick manager is still at Elland Road, of course. If he is, it probably means Leeds are preparing for life in the Premier League. That could have a knock-on effect on the youngsters – it will be much harder to give them game-time in the top-flight – but we think there’s a couple, with Bogusz being one, who could make the breakthrough.
