Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has claimed that 19-year-old Rhian Brewster could make his debut in the Liverpool first-team before the end of the season.

Brewster made his return for the Under-23s on Sunday after being sidelined all season with an ankle injury, and scored one and added an assist in the 6-0 win over Leicester.

Writing in his column in the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge was full of praise for the youngster and hinted that Liverpool fans may get to see him before the end of the campaign.

“Rhian Brewster’s got a few goals since coming back,” Aldridge said. “He’s a young lad but you never know, he might get a run-out before the end of the season.

“He’s one for the future obviously and he’ll be heavily involved in pre-season next season. It’s all great to see.”

Brewster is reportedly on £10k-a-week at Liverpool.

OPINION

Brewster made the bench in 2017 but has yet to make his debut for the first-team, and he’s been out for over a year now with a serious ankle injury. He’s on the comeback trail and already scoring goals and it should be an exciting pre-season for him. It will be fascinating to see whether Klopp thinks Brewster can be a part of the first-team set-up next season or whether he’d be better off going out on loan – there would certainly be no shortage of teams who would want him. As for Aldridge’s claim that he could get a run-out this season… we’d like to know when. There are no ‘dead’ fixtures left between now and the end of the season and Liverpool are fighting for English football’s two biggest prizes – the Premier League and the Champions League. We can’t see him making his Liverpool debut while there’s this much pressure on the side, no-matter how good he is. The 19-year-old has just come back from a serious injury and we think he’ll have to wait for pre-season to get a sniff of the first-team.
