Jake Hastie’s heavily publicised move to Rangers has been on the tips of everyone’s tongue in Scottish football for the past couple of weeks now.

The Motherwell youngster is set to join up with Steven Gerrard’s side after it was reported by Superscoreboard that he had agreed a pre-contract deal with the Gers on Friday.

Shortly before that, however, Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson was asked about the 20-year-old in his press conference, and his answer is a telling insight into just how good Hastie could go on to be.

As quoted by Superscoreboard, Robinson said: “He won’t sign for me.

“I believe Jake’s signed for another club.

“It’s not for me to announce.”

It is evident that Robinson was desperate to keep hold of Hastie, and you can understand why.

This is a young player with the potential to really kick on and become one of the most dangerous players in the Scottish game.

This is not a player who has been allowed to walk out of the club. This is a player who Motherwell have tried their level best to keep, and who has felt that it his time for him to move on in his career regardless.

And he’s surely right.

Obviously, only Hastie will know for certain, but moving to a massive club like Rangers, playing under a legend of the game like Steven Gerrard, is surely the best way for him to grow and develop, and it would now appear that his switch is on the cusp of confirmation.

As and when it does go through, Rangers fans should be delighted, because they might just have snapped up one of the best young talents north of the border.

Robinson doesn’t sound too happy, but the Gers should be over the moon.
