Suddenly, there is real hope at Aston Villa. Back in the top six for the first time since 1 September, they are one point behind Middlesbrough after they defeated their promotion rivals 3-0 at Villa Park on Saturday. It was a win that demonstrated everything that is impressive about Dean Smith’s side – the attacking brio, expansive playing style, industry and growing defensive resilience. Villa have now taken 12 points from four matches, a run that has coincided with the return of main man Jack Grealish. The playmaker wasn’t the only academy product in the starting XI against Boro, with Andre Green also getting the nod to start, ahead of Albert Adomah, Jonathan Kodjia, Keinan Davis and company. Green started off quite lively, but was the weakest link among the Villains. He was rightfully subbed after 65 minutes following a fitful display that was perhaps the only negative on show.

Green struggled to make a real impact today but playing against a team that like to defend as much as boro will be good experience for him #AVFC

Really really really want Green to do well. Just don’t know if he’s got it in him. #AVFC
