Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley is still on Aston Villa’s radar ahead of the summer after plotting a potential swoop over the winter window, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the Villans have not dropped their interest over January and that the 26-year-old is still on their shortlist for a summer move after dazzling in the Championship this season.

He has scored nine goals and chipped in with a further eight assists across all competitions this season, his latest coming from the penalty spot in Forest’s 3-0 win over Hull City.

Good move for Villa?

Lolley’s form this season has been brilliant for a winger, not only contributing assists for his teammates but finding himself on the score sheet regularly too.

He would be a huge upgrade on the current options out wide at Villa Park, whose efforts have not been to the standard expected for a club of their stature and so it is no surprise to hear they are keen after tracking him in January.

If they can prise him away then he would become a star player in that Villa side and the opportunity to weaken an opponent who will also likely be chasing promotion would give the club a huge mental boost as well.

Likely to happen?

Holding interest is one thing but making it reality is a totally different kettle of fish.

Forest are not going to to want to let their star man depart, especially not to a side sitting in a similar position as them and so it would take an awful lot of money to secure his signing.

Villa might be keen, but that means nothing if the club do not want to sell.
