West Bromwich Albion are set to revisit their pursuit of out of work manager Slavisa Jokanovic in the summer, according to journalist John Percy.

The Daily Telegraph reporter revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, with the Baggies’ pursuit of the former Fulham chief seemingly put on ice.

Caretaker boss James Shan will continue to hold the reins against Birmingham City in the club’s next game, and now looks increasingly likely to be given the manager’s job until the end of the season.

Shan has secured two wins in two games over Swansea City and Brentford since the shock sacking of Darren Moore earlier this month.

OPINION

This is an interesting update from Percy. Shan has obviously done all he could to get the job until the end of the season, at least, and so this is  a decent solution to the managerial situation at the Hawthorns. It’s unknown why Jokanovic’s appointment hasn’t been made yet, but it seems that the club are content to wait until the end of the campaign. At that time they will then know what division they are in and which managers are available and will be able to make a more informed choice on their next boss. However, the sacking of Moore still seems completely pointless, despite West Brom’s fine form since Shan took charge. If they were simply going to give Shan the job until the end of the season then it makes Moore’s sacking look bizarre – appointing Shan is a sideways move. If they had brought Jokanovic straight in then fine, but they haven’t, so maybe the should have kept Moore until season’s end. Still, we’ll see how this goes and the signs are good under Shan so far at least.
