West Brom have not been in talks with Slavisa Jokanovic despite claims suggesting they had but he would welcome the opening of negotiations over the vacant manager’s role, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper delivered the surprise twist over the club’s hunt for Darren Moore’s replacement on their website, with Teamtalk among a number of outlets previously reporting that negotiations were underway, the Serbian manager said to have looked for a £38,000-a-week wage to take over.

However, it seems that nothing has progressed as yet with the Mirror stating that money is not everything to Jokanovic and the club he takes over must be the right project for him.

Opinion

West Brom fans will not know whether this is great or worrying news. Previous claims had suggested the Baggies could not meet Jokanovic’s demands in terms of wage but the fact no talks have taken place suggest they would not know what he is looking for. It has all become very confusing and all the Hawthorns faithful want is to see their side appoint a manager who can help take them back to the Premier League sooner rather than later. Jokanovic certainly has the experience of doing so, guiding Fulham to the top flight via the play offs, although the less said about his time among the elite of English football the better. There are still many questioning why the club sacked Darren Moore in the first place and whoever does take charge will have big boots to fill on the touchline. Failure to succeed will only deepen the doubts among the fans towards the board.
