OPINION

They say that a picture can speak a thousand words, and that was certainly with Jack Grealish’s brilliant tweet on Saturday night. The Aston Villa captain took to social media when a photograph started circulating of a group of Birmingham City fans who had made a banner praising Paul Mitchell, the man who invaded the pitch and attacked Grealish in last weekend’s Second City derby. Grealish responded to that banner by simply posting a photo of him celebrating his winner in that clash, and you have to say that it’s about a perfect comeback as he could ever have come up with. Grealish received a lot of credit for the manner in which he conducted himself last weekend, and rightly so. He was calm, measured, dignified, and fully deserving of the winner that he took so brilliantly. Some might argue that this response tarnishes that image, but if City fans are going to insist on mocking him, and advocating such a vile act of unprovoked violence against him when he was entirely defenceless, then pretty much anything is fair game. Grealish has acted with class, shown that he has a good sense of humour, and had the last laugh against his bitter rivals, what’s not to like?
