Cameron Carter-Vickers has not really impressed as much as Tottenham would have hoped since sending the defender on loan to Swansea last summer.

The 21-year-old has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Swans, but has hardly shown any kind of potential that could lead him towards being a decent player for Spurs in the future.

On Wednesday night, the USA international had an absolute shocker of a performance in the 3-0 defeat to managerless West Brom.

Carter-Vickers was hugely at fault for the third and final goal that Swansea conceded as he practically passed the ball to an unmarked Jay Rodriguez in his own penalty area.

It was a display that summed up how Carter-Vickers has done for the Welsh side – and it proves that he does not have what it takes to be a Tottenham player.

Since joining Spurs as an 11-year-old, Carter-Vickers has always been highly-rated in the youth set-up in North London, but he is now 21-years-old, has just four senior appearances to his name for his parent club and has had some pretty underwhelming loan spells in the Championship.

By now, the Southend-born defender should be bossing it in the second-tier with a team pushing for promotion, but instead he is playing below par for a team floundering in the bottom half.

That is why Spurs should look to cash in on the £20,000-a-week [Spotrac] defender in the summer.

He is earning a lot of money for someone who is never really going to get a shot in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team and once this season ends, he will be into the final two years of his deal.

It is the optimum time to offload the player, and Daniel Levy needs to try and start offering him around to Championship clubs sooner rather than later so they can buy him from the Premier League side.
