Tottenham must make an attempt to sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by the Daily Mail earlier this month, the Dutch giants could be ready to cash in on the 26-year-old for just £8million this summer, which would be an absolute steal for a player who has enjoyed the season he has had.

Tagliafico has been sensational for Ajax in both the Champions League and in the Eredivise, appearing 33 times across all competitions while scoring five goals and supplying five assists in the process.

The former Independiente left-back was key in helping Ajax reach the knock-out stages of the Champions League with goals against AEK Athens and Bayern Munich before putting in a superb display at the Bernabeu to seal a shock win over Real Madrid in the round of 16.

Understandably, Tagliafico has been attracting a lot of attention due to his red-hot form.

The Daily Mail says that Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing the Argentina international while Sport has recently reported that his agent has offered him out to Barcelona.

It would be very hard for the player to turn down Barca if they do come calling, but Spurs should be in a good position to sign Tagliafico if they do decide to go after him.

Firstly, Mauricio Pochettino is Argentine and could be able to persuade the Ajax flyer to join them over their North London rivals or clubs in Spain.

Also, Spurs have several players who have previously played for Ajax and gone onto to become some of the best in their positions in European football.

Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez are all former players of the Amsterdam giants who currently reside in North London.

Daniel Levy is not known for splashing the cash on any old player but even he will surely see that Tagliaficio, at £8million, would be an absolute bargain and could go on to be worth three or four times that after a couple of seasons in the Premier League.

It would be a masterstroke by the Spurs chairman if he was able to strike a deal for the Argentine this summer.
