Tottenham must shatter their transfer silence by making a big-money move to sign Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic in the summer window.

Jovic, 21, has been in sensational form while on loan at the Bundesliga club this season, scoring 22 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

According to the Guardian, Frankfurt have already agreed to sign Jovic permanently from Benfica at the end of the season, but they could accept up to £60.5million if that sort of money is tabled for him in the summer.

Barcelona are reportedly lining up a £43million bid for the Serbia international, but that falls a far bit shy of Frankfurt’s valuation and Tottenham should be hot on the heels of the 21-year-old in the next transfer window to bolster their striker options.

Calcio Mercato reported in October that Jovic is on the radar of the North London club and they should definitely think about making him their first signing since January 2018 by bidding in the summer.

Harry Kane is by far and away Mauricio Pochettino’s best striker, but who does he have after that?

Fernando Llorente’s deal expires at the end of the season and Vincent Janssen is widely-expected to leave North London.

Heung-min Son is decent back-up for Kane but he is more of wide player who likes to cut inside.

Jovic is as natural a goalscorer as they get and would add something different to what Kane currently offers.

Swapping between the two players would allow Pochettino to mix things up against teams who sit deep and nullify Kane, while the Serbia international’s pace could be a lethal weapon when used off the bench.

It would take a massive amount of money for Spurs to sign Jovic judging by the Guardian’s report, but if Daniel Levy is going to free up funds for Pochettino to strengthen his squad, he should do it for a quality signing like the Frankfurt forward would end up being.
