Chris Sutton has urged Celtic to sign Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu after branding him as an “absolute nightmare” to play against.

Sutton has claimed that whoever is in charge of the Hoops next summer needs to recruit some central defenders, a right-back, a striker and a creative midfielder – and he has identified the 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] attacker as a player that Celtic should make a move for.

He adds that the 24-year-old would offer Neil Lennon’s side a different dimension to their attack after being impressed by Hearts after their midweek clash with Celtic.

“Whoever is in charge on the summer will need to bring in a couple of centre-halves, a right-back, a striker and a creative midfielder at the very least. And that’s only if they can hang on to the talent already at the club,” he said in his Daily Record column.

“Hearts are a bloody awkwardside at home and I was very impressed by them. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Celtic to make a move for Uche Ikeazu as well as the big striker must be an absolute nightmare to play against. He’d bring a different option, that’s for sure.”

OPINION

Signing Ukpeazu would not be a bad shout in the slightest for Celtic. They may have recruited in the summer with the likes of Timothy Weah, Oliver Burke and Vakoun Issouf Bayo – but with the first two set to leave at the end of the season, signing a forward is really important. Brendan Rodgers has played Burke up front recently, but his return to West Brom means that signing someone like Ikpeazu would be very wise. He may have only scored four goals this season, but as Sutton pointed out, he must be an absolute nightmare to play against due to his height. Celtic need different options, and he is just the player to provide them with that after impressing the other night. Yes, he could do with scoring more goals – but with attacking talent such as Ryan Christie providing the creativity, increasing his tally for a club like Celtic would not be a problem.
