The midfield is an area of the pitch that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should not be too concerned about. With Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Glen Kamara all in contention, it is safe to say that he has the pick of the bunch.

However, many eagle eyed fans would have noticed that Ross McCrorie has not seen any action for a small while. He was at their heart of their midfield for a bit, and he has drifted off the radar since.

The 21-year-old ace has hardly put a foot wrong this season and it is baffling why Gerrard has not used him more. Gordon Smith claimed in his Sunday Post column that McCrorie strikes him as someone who has the winning mentality the manager needs, as well as pointing out the Gers did not lose a match against a fellow Scottish club with the young prospect in the side.

“Rangers have never suffered a domestic defeat when young Ross McCrorie is in the side. It could be a question of fitting him into the system favoured by Gerrard. He strikes me as someone with the winning mentality needed at the club,” he said.

If this is indeed the case, why is Gerrard not using him more? If this is anything to go by, he should definitely start against Celtic in their next game on March 31. Rangers have been suffering from a bit of a slump recently, so perhaps the best solution is to reintroduce the young ace to inject some energy into proceedings.

Their recent 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock was not the best that we have seen from them. The midfield did not disappoint too much, but it was clear that some changes needed to be made. Steven Davis may have had a good game that day, but who is to say that he would do that once again if chosen to play the Hoops?

It is no coincidence that Rangers have not lost a domestic match with McCrorie in the side. Gerrard must be wise and unleash McCrorie if he wants have a good chance of beating Celtic once again.
