Everton manager Marco Silva is facing a nervy wait as the FA decide whether or not to charge him for his behaviour after their defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday, according to reliable journalist Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the officials are looking over referee Lee Mason’s report after the Toffees boss engaged in a heated confrontation with the man in the middle at St James’ Park.

It is stated that the referee’s report will be assessed before any action is taken, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino having been handed a two game ban for a post-game incident with Mike Dean just weeks ago.

Opinion

It might not have been as high profile as the Spurs man, partly due to the fact the game was not broadcast live around the country, but there is still a case for Silva to answer to here. Yes, he might have every right to be angry about Newcastle’s winning goal due to a missed offside but at the same time you cannot allow your temper to boil over on the pitch at full time. With Pochettino’s somewhat harsh punishment having set the precedent, managers need to be careful about their conduct and would be wise to take some time to calm down before talking to the referee and his assistants behind closed doors. He might not have been as incensed or vociferous as Pochettino but his anger still boiled over and no doubt had some firm words for Mason as he walked off the pitch. Time will tell if the FA are to punish him, but it seems managers are more under the spotlight than ever regarding their conduct.
