Rangers manager Steven Gerrard would be wise to recall international trio Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic and Jermain Defoe for his team’s clash with Aberdeen on Tuesday night.

After being held to a 1-1 draw in the original Scottish Cup quarter final clash, Gerrard will know that he needs more firepower at Ibrox. With that said, Defoe must partner Alfredo Morelos up front. Scott Arfield should drop out as a result.

Due to Joe Worrall’s inconsistent form Katic should take his place against the Dons. Meanwhile Barisic deserves to come in for Andy Halliday on Tuesday.

This competition represents a genuine chance for silverware for Gerrard’s side, and these three changes would likely be enough for his team to cruise past Aberdeen.

Allan McGregor is the undisputed first choice at Ibrox and with good reason, he must start again here. James Tavernier is an equally sure-fire starter and should remain in place against Derek McInnes’ team.

As mentioned, it’s Katic who deserves to play ahead of Worrall. Connor Goldson will likely partner the Croatian international at the heart of the defence. Barisic should come in for Halliday at left back.

Daniel Candeias remains one of the team’s most creative players and should get the nod once again on Tuesday. The same could be said for Ryan Kent and he must also keep his place.

In central midfield, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara continue to be the most effective partnership, while Morelos and Defoe should start up top as mentioned.

Together, this side has the balance and cutting edge to crush the Dons and take another step towards some silverware.
