Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers may raid his old club Celtic for defender Dedryck Boyata in the next transfer window, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports on their website that Rodgers is looking to add reinforcements to his defence in order to find a successor to Wes Morgan, and he has identified Boyata as a potential candidate.

The report adds that he will be handed a £200million transfer kitty, but seeing as Boyata’s contract runs out at the end of the season, he will be available to sign on a free transfer.

Good move for Celtic?

Boyata is a decent centre-back, so the last thing Celtic would want to do is offload him to one of their old managers. They need ensure that he stays at Parkhead, because come the end of the season, they will not have many centre-halves to call upon. It is baffling why his contract has not been extended, but if Leicester come in for the 28-year-old, then the Hoops may have a tough fight on their hands.

Likely to happen?

Seeing as Boyata will be available to sign for free in the summer, the possibility of a move happening is more than likely. The Belgian – who appeared for his country at the World Cup – will no doubt be tempted by a move to the Premier League, and this is something that may be the reason why this switch could happen. The Hoops should have tied him down to a contract earlier, but the fact this has not happened suggests that Boyata is thinking about leaving come the summer.
