Davie Hay has heralded the appointment of Neil Lennon at Celtic and thinks that he is a good long-term option for the club.

The Hoops hired their former manager to take charge after Brendan Rodgers departed Parkhead in order to take up the vacant Leicester post, and Hay has labelled the appointment as a “absolute no brainer”.

He adds that if Celtic do go on to win the treble this season, then it will be Lennon – as well as the players – who must take the credit for the achievement.

“Neil Lennon was an absolute no-brainer for me. He is the right choice to take the job in the short term and I see no reason why he should not be there in the long-term,” he said in his Evening Times column.

“And for me, if Celtic are successful in going on and completing the treble then the players and Lennon will deserve huge credit.”

OPINION

Many Celtic fans were no doubt surprised that Rodgers jumped ship as quickly as he did, but the fact that they now have Lennon in charge must be a huge relief for them. Having managed the Hoops before, Lennon knows what he is letting himself in for, and it will certainly serve him well in helping Celtic win the treble. Hay is right – appointing him was a “no brainer” decision for the club, and there is no reason why he cannot take the job full-time. He has more than enough pedigree to succeed once again at Celtic, and it is hard to imagine anyone else taking up the post. The Hoops are on the verge of completing a ‘treble treble’ and Lennon now needs to make sure that he is the one who steers them to the finishing line successfully – like Hay said, if he manages to achieve that, then he will deserve a lot f credit.
