Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has picked up an injury blow on international duty which has kept him out of Scotland training and ruled him out of his country’s clash with Kazakhstan, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports News host Jo Wilson revealed on the broadcast channel (20/03, 14:24) that the Hoops left back sat out of training on Tuesday (19 March) and that the injury setback would keep him out of the European qualifying clash on Thursday (21 March).

Tierney has been a mainstay for his club since coming back from a long-term pelvic injury which saw him out of action for 10 weeks over winter.

Opinion

The absolute last thing Celtic wanted over the international break was any sort of injury problems but it seems as though their prayers have not been listened to by the footballing gods. It remains to be seen just how serious Tierney’s problem is but the fact that he has been forced to watch on from the sidelines is not a good sign at all. Usually a minor setback would see the manager put him on the bench just in case so it might well be this is a little bit more serious. On the other hand it could just be a case of his injury problems from earlier in the season flaring up and that the Scottish medical team are taking no chances over him being out for as long as he was for the Bhoys over the winter period. Either way, it is a worrying update for those at Parkhead and everyone of a green and white persuasion will be hoping that he can make a swift recovery from his layoff. After all, it is Rangers up next in the league and no one wants the full back missing that crunch clash.
