BBC pundit Tam McManus tore into Rangers after they lost 2-0 to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday.

McManus, who is regularly heard on BBC’s Sportsound, took to his personal Twitter account after the Gers lost to the Dons and didn’t hold back.

The pundit claimed that after all the promise previously surrounding Rangers under Steven Gerrard, their season had fizzled out and was effectively over after being knocked out the cup.

McManus then added that Gerrard’s remarks about the Gers being a class above Aberdeen had came back to haunt him as his opponents had done their talking on the pitch.

“Magnificent result for Aberdeen. All promised so much at the start for Rangers under Stevie G but has fizzled out to absolutely nothing. Season over. Two crunch games v Aberdeen in the Cups in Glasgow and Rangers simply haven’t turned up,” tweeted the pundit.

“And Steven Gerrard’s comment about Rangers being ‘a class above Aberdeen’ has certainly came back to bite him.  Talking done on the park by the Dons.”

OPINION

McManus doesn’t hold anything back after Rangers’ journey in the Scottish Cup ended and who can blame him? The pundit clearly felt aggrieved from Gerrard’s previous remarks and was just waiting to see if Aberdeen could make the Gers boss regret them. While McManus harshly deems the season over for the Gers as their hopes of winning silverware have gone up in smoke, he has gone in a little bit too strongly all things considered. Gerrard has improved the Gers since taking over and just because this season looks very likely to end with no trophy for him, doesn’t mean he has done a bad job. Upon arriving at Ibrox, everyone acknowledged that making the Gers contenders for trophies once again was a huge ask and that it was going to take time. While Gerrard did fill everyone with hope by making such a fast start, he shouldn’t be made a victim of his own success.
