talkSPORT broadcaster Max Rushden has said that Moussa Sissoko was laughed at and seen as ‘a joke’ just six months ago.

That’s all changed now for the key Tottenham star after a string of impressive recent performances and a Champions League masterclass in the 1-0 win against Borussia Dortmund last night.

Sissoko put in another fantastic shift in a season where he’s proved all his critics wrong – none more so than Rushden.

“He [Sissoko] was a joke six months ago and how wrong we were,” Rushden said on the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show (talkSPORT, Weds, 7am).

“People were laughing when he took a shot, it wasn’t anger it was sympathy. But he played like a man possessed last night.”

OPINION

Sissoko has won everyone over this season and is finally proving why Daniel Levy paid £31.5million for the player from Newcastle. It’s no exaggeration to say that Spurs fans hated him last season and Rushden is right when he says he was viewed as a joke inside and outside the club. Not any more. Sissoko has been one of the most consistently impressive players for Tottenham this season and he was brilliant across the two legs against Dortmund. What a transformation. He’s almost unrecognisable from last season and he will have a big part to play in the Champions League quarter-final. The 4-0 aggregate win is one of Tottenham’s most impressive achievements in Europe under Pochettino and it’s seen their odds of lifting the trophy plummet. After not lifting silverware for so long, could they get their hands on the biggest one of the season? Stranger things have happened in football.
