Jamie Redknapp has predicted that Leeds United will win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side is currently third in the Championship standings, one point behind second-placed Sheffield United after losing to the Blades prior to the international break.

However ex-Tottenham midfielder Redknapp has backed Leeds to return to the automatic promotion spots and return to the top-flight alongside Norwich and Aston Villa.

“I really like Norwich and Leeds will come up from the Championship with them. Jack Grealish, the best player outside the Premier League, has returned at the perfect time for Aston Villa and he can fire them to promotion, too,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

OPINION

Leeds know that automatic promotion is no longer in their hands after losing to Sheffield United earlier this month, so Bielsa and his players are going to have to hope that the Blades – or Norwich – slip up at some point before the end of the campaign. At the moment, Norwich look as though they can win the league. They are four points clear of second and have won their last six on the bounce. Sheffield United could still slip up and that’s what Leeds should be hoping for. Even if the Blades do finish above the Whites, Bielsa will fancy his side’s chances in the play-offs. They have hammered fourth-placed West Brom recently and definitely have the ability to see off teams like Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Preston should they finish in the top-six as well. It would take a brave man to bet against the current top three from being promoted.
