Many Celtic fans will be thinking that Brendan Rodgers was wrong to leave for Leicester City on the belief that he had taken the club as far as he could after Ian Wright had a question for Chris Sutton.

Sutton, who has been very vocal on Rodgers leaving the Hoops, shared he thought it was fair enough that the manager believed he had made as much progress as he could with Celtic and this seem to prompt a reaction from the former Arsenal forward.

“He (Rodgers) said he had taken Celtic as far as he could which is fair enough and..” said Sutton on the Monday Night Club (BBC Radio 5 Live, March 4th 20:18) before Wright cut him off to ask whether “Why? Have Celtic ever done the treble treble?”

Sutton then quickly replied that was a very good point before going on to highlight that Rodgers never did what he said regarding Celtic in European competitions either.

While Celtic fans are no doubt sick of hearing about Rodgers following his exit, they will no doubt be thinking that Wright is correct to suggest that he clearly could have done more simply by sticking around to win the treble treble.

No Scottish club has ever done the treble treble, as stated by BBC Sport, and clearly that means Rodgers still had more that he was able to accomplish at Celtic.

While the manager has won the league title, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup before, he would have made history that would have taken ages for a side to repeat simply by wrapping up the treble treble.

Yet now that Rodgers has exited, it will be Neil Lennon that will get the credit as he will likely lead the Hoops over the line and that’s all that really matters when it comes to it.

So if Rodgers did think his work was done at Celtic and he could do no more, than clearly he was barking up the wrong tree as Wright was spot-on to question Sutton during his latest verdict on the manager’s exit.
