Tottenham must ensure they win the race for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson after he impressed for Sheffield United against Leeds United on Saturday.

ESPN reported in February that Spurs were one of many high-profile teams keeping tabs on the 22-year-old shot-stopper and his latest display should have them ready to open the chequebook.

The broadcaster claimed that Manchester United do see Henderson as a keeper who has the potential to be their first-choice down the line, but that he is currently behind Lee Grant, David De Gea and Sergio Romero in the pecking order.

While Man United have Henderson under contract to 2020, an option to extend his deal by a year, given that he has featured regularly for Sheffield United this season then the 22-year-old may try to acquire a move that sees him closer to being first-choice for a side as he has gotten used to playing weekly.

The 6ft 2in shot-stopper (Source: Transfermarkt) has had a fantastic season, keeping 17 clean sheets in 37 outings, and proved on Saturday that he thrives under pressure.

Sheffield United defeated Leeds 1-0 in a match that saw every player on the pitch feel the pressure as both teams knew the result could have huge consequences on their side’s hope to win automatic promotion.

With the game played at Elland Road, Leeds supporters were vocal and Henderson thrived in that pressurised environment, and many other players would have shrivelled up in a similar situation.

The shot-stopper made a few key saves to keep his clean sheet intact and seemed to be a reassuring presence who inspired confidence and reassured the players in front of him.

Henderson showing his bottle in such a game, showed that Spurs would be very lucky to have him as he ticked off another box that makes him seemed destined to be a star of the future.

Therefore Spurs can hit the jackpot by successfully winning the race for him as not only does he look the real deal on the field, he also seems to have the mental strength needed to help a side achieve great success.
