Victor Wanyama is set to be sold by Tottenham this summer after “squandering” his final chance to rejuvenate his career at the club, according to the Daily Telegraph.

In his weekly email briefing to readers of the newspaper, correspondent Matt Law has claimed the writing is on wall of the Spurs 27-year-old following his failure to rediscover form after serious knee problems.

The Telegraph report Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to withdraw Wanyama an hour into the north London on his first start of 2019 last month ” may have represented a final chance squandered”.

OPINION

Wanyama has made just five starts in all competitions for Tottenham this season, two of which were in the League Cup, and his placed in the pecking order has been illustrated by how he has been consistently overlooked by Mauricio Pochettino when deemed fit and available. Even in the wake of a never-ending string of senior player injuries, Wanyama has been unable to win over the manager and convince him his body can cope with the brutal demands of Premier League and Champions League football. Many Spurs fans will regard as his inevitable summer exit as a big shame. Wanyama’s partnership with Mousa Dembele in his first season at the club was pivotal to Tottenham securing a second-place finish and their highest points haul of the Premier League era. That campaign was the best of the Kenya international’s career, but it appears as if the knee injuries have restricted his mobility, and he may need to drop down to a mid-table club to get his career back on track.
