Tottenham Hotspur are interested in moves for Serie A stars Matias Vecino and Amadou Diawara as they look to reinforce their midfield next summer, according to Tuttosport.

The Italian outlet claims that Inter Milan star Vecino and Napoli man Diawara are options for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as they prepare to receive offers for talisman Christian Eriksen in a few months time.

Uruguayan international Vecino is the club’s first choice, but Guinea star Diawara is also an option for Spurs. The former is certainly the more proven of the two players.

Good move for Tottenham?

These are moves that are potentially being made depending on whether Eriksen leaves the club or not. The feeling now is that the Denmark international probably will depart in the summer, meaning that the club need to start looking at potential replacements for the mercurial playmaker.

Vecino is certainly a top class talent, we have seen that during his time with Fiorentina and now Inter. Luciano Spalletti’s side are not quite what they once were, but you still have to be a good player to feature regularly for the Italian giants.

Vecino doesn’t bring the sheer volume of goals and assists that Eriksen does, but he is a very good player. Diawara is more of an unknown quantity and is a more combative midfielder, so he would be less of an ideal replacement.

Likely to happen?

If Eriksen does leave then Spurs will be flush with cash and so if they truly want either of these players then they will surely get them.

Vecino is the priority and rightly so, but it could take a big offer to bring him in. Still, Tottenham should have more than enough to bring him to North London.
