Tottenham are looking to “pinch” Andre Gomes from “under the nose of Everton”, according to the Sun.

The Barcelona midfielder is currently at Everton but his loan deal finishes in the summer.

Everton want to make his signing permanent but Tottenham have had their heads turned by a string of impressive performances for the Merseyside team.

The report claims that Tottenham could lure Gomes, currently on £110k-a-week, with the promise of European football next season.

Daniel Levy has angered Tottenham fans by not making any signings in the last two windows but appears to be gearing up for investment this summer.

Gomes is settled over here and revealed, “I’m really happy to be in the Premier League and England.”

OPINION

Hmm, we’re not sure that Tottenham fans will be particularly excited by this. Gomes has been okay at Everton, but certainly not spectacular and his wages would put him in the upper bracket of the Tottenham team. We think Spurs fans would expect better for that sort of money and with a contract at Barcelona until 2021, he’ll command a pretty healthy fee too. Everton are very keen to sign Gomes on a permanent deal and Spurs should let them complete the deal. The Portugal international wouldn’t offer the club much of an upgrade and he doesn’t seem like your typical Poch player. Saying that, after two barren windows, Spurs fans would be happy to see any big-money players coming in. Spurs have also been linked with players such as Jack Grealish and Wilfried Zaha, and other players like Declan Rice would be the sort of calibre of player that Tottenham need.  In that regard, this summer is looking a lot more positive. Champions League football and a brand new stadium should be enough to turn a lot of heads.
