Former Premier League striker and current pundit Chris Sutton has suggested that the prospect of Arsenal finishing above Tottenham is looking increasingly likely.

The Gunners’ 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon moved them to within just one point of their north London rivals, who dropped points again on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat to Southampton.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (Sunday March 10th, 18.30), Sutton argued that Spurs should be worried.

He said: “Unthinkable, wasn’t it, a few months ago, to think that Arsenal can overtake Spurs

“Now, you have to say, it looks sort of on, doesn’t it?”

OPINION

Tottenham will never forgive themselves if they let this one slip through their finger. Up until very recently they were being touted as outside contenders for the title, but now, after a couple of embarrassing results, there’s no guarantee they’ll even finish in the top four. They are going well in the Champions League, to their credit, but they shouldn’t have to choose every year between a decent run in Europe or a title challenge. Yes, compared to teams around them they have a fairly thin squad, but man for man they are certainly better than Arsenal, and the humiliation of finishing beneath their bitter rivals would be a difficult pill to swallow. More importantly, it would probably raise some questions over Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. The Argentine is adored at Spurs, and rightly so, but if he lets this one get away from him, would a fanbase already desperate for a trophy be able to turn a blind eye?
