Spurs given major Eriksen boost

OPINION

It is something of an understatement to assert that Tottenham fans are anxious about the future of Christian Eriksen.

The great Dane is out of contract in the summer of 2020 and widespread reports have claimed he has rejected a series of new contract offers, the latest said to be a very lucrative one.

The general view is that Eriksen, who turned 27 last month, is far more likely to leave than he is to stay at the club he has served with such distinction for six years.

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with the playmaker but Football London report that new developments this week have significantly reduced their chances of getting him this summer.

It is said they are on preparing a sensational £300million summer bid for Neymar (source: Independent) following their Champions League exit on Tuesday, and Paris Saint-Germain’s shock departure from the competition 24 hours later.

The knock-on effect for Spurs, claim Football London, is that this considerably increases the chance of Eriksen remaining in north London as Real “have risen up to become the shadow looming over the Dane’s future at Spurs”.

Even a mass player exodus at the Bernabeu to raise funds for a Galactico spending spree is unlikely to provide the sort of cash needed for a bid that would get Daniel Levy’s attention this summer.

Great news for the White Hart Lane faithful, who remember how Real prised Gareth Bale and Luka Modric from their club over consecutive summers.

There isn’t a Spurs fan out there who doesn’t want creator-in-chief Eriksen to say and they will be going wild at these latest reports.
