Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez has escaped punishment from the Football Association over an incident involving Arsenal player Laurent Koscielny, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster reports on their website that the 22-year-old will not face any retrospective action from the FA despite appearing to lodge his studs in to the Frenchman’s knee during the 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The report adds that the incident was seen by match officials, and it was not thought to be an act of violent conduct – if charged, the centre-back could have faced a three match ban.

OPINION

Many Arsenal fans will no doubt be up in arms about this decision, especially as footage of it was circulated around social media hours after the game had finished. This is a type of incident that players can usually get sent off for and have done in the past, so it is rather surprising that it has not been deemed as violent conduct by the FA. This may have changed the course of the game if Sanchez had been sent off afterwards, but seeing as the defender was not at his best on Saturday, it would not made much of a difference whether he was there or not. However, he is lucky that he has escaped punishment, and boss Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt be grateful that he still has plenty of options for their next Premier League match against Southampton. He now has the chance to redeem himself after a number of crucial errors on Saturday, so here is hoping that he does.
