Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has backed Tottenham to make a huge statement of intent by bringing former star Gareth Bale back to the Premier League as his future at Real Madrid is left up in the air.

Reports from Spain have suggested that the Wales international is not popular either with the fans at the Bernabeu or his fellow players in the dressing room, leaving his place in the squad in doubt.

Speaking of the Spurs fan favourite, Rosenior has said that he would be ideal for his former side when it comes to bolstering their attacking options and would be the marquee signing the supporters have been looking for.

Asked where the Welsh wizard should head next, told Sky Sports’ The Debate (05/03, 22:00): “Manchester United and Tottenham both stick out to me because they both are clubs that are trying to get back to that top level. Manchester City are recruiting in a different way… possibly Liverpool, they play with pace – he could play anywhere.

“For Tottenham it would be a huge statement signing, that’s the biggest statement signing. We’re talking about players that can actually improve their front line, improve them in wide positions and give them something different.

“Gareth Bale definitely does that and he’s got a great connection with the fans. Why not make him that marquee signing that takes you into that new stadium? Might make more sense than it actually looks like.”

Opinion

Bale would improve maybe all 20 of the sides in the Premier League but the hunt for guaranteed playing time means that he might have to rule out the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. A return to Tottenham does make a lot of sense on paper – he is adored by the fans and is exactly what the Lilywhites need to take them to the next level – but in reality it would be a difficult switch to pull off. The world superstar would need to take a hefty pay cut to rejoin Spurs, not to mention a huge transfer fee for the club to pay the Spanish giants. His time at the Bernabeu does look to be coming to an end but north London just does not seem like a realistic destination, despite how much it would suit both parties. Wherever he does end up, that club will be getting their hands on an explosive talent who can fire you to glory. Unlike Real Madrid, they would be wise to make use of him.
