Harry Redknapp has slammed Lucas Moura for going missing in recent months and failing to reproduce his early-season Tottenham form.

The attacker was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s Champions League triumph against Borussia Dortmund, just as he was in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal last weekend.

Redknapp claimed Moura has failed to live up to his excellent display in August, when he scored twice in a 3-0 triumph against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Speaking on BT Sport 2’s live coverage of Spurs’ clash against Dortmund on Tuesday, Redknapp said: “What did they play for Moura? £30million. He looked like an absolute world beater at Old Trafford.

“They spent a fortune…they’ve got to produce.”

OPINION

Moura has failed to live up to his price tag or his billing since joining Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in January of last year. His scorching pace and skill should have seen him nail down a regular starting place, especially given the multiple injuries that have robbed Mauricio Pochettino of senior players this season. Moura began the season on fire, but his form has nosedived to the point where he has not scored a goal in any competition since Boxing Day. Pochettino has made his feelings clear by failing to once start Moura over the last month even though he has been fit and available. That is damning. While there is still time this season for the Brazilian to deliver meaningful contributions, it appears the manager has lost some faith. Moura needs to end his winter of discontent and properly justify the reputation that led Tottenham to make him such a big-money signing last year.
