Michael Owen predicted Tottenham to defeat Arsenal on Saturday due to the Gunners being vulnerable on their travels.

The former Liverpool player shared that Saturday’s clash between the North London rivals would be a hugely entertaining affair that he just felt Spurs would emerge victorious from.

Owen also noted during his predictions that the Champions League was now Tottenham’s only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season after losing their last two Premier League matches.

“Arsenal came from behind to win the reverse fixture at the Emirates 4-2 back in December, but I expect their North London rivals to gain their revenge back at Wembley in another hugely entertaining derby,” wrote Owen in his predictions for BetVictor.

“Spurs’ have won five of their last seven PL home games against the Gunners and will want to bounce back, having lost their last two PL games on the road this week. They take a three-goal lead to Dortmund midweek and the Champions League looks their only realistic chance of silverware this term.

“The Gunners meanwhile, have picked up six home points this week and a win for Unai Emery’s side would take them within a point of their neighbours.

“The away side have only won one of the last 16 north London derbies and Arsenal remain vulnerable on their travels. I feel Spurs will extend the gap between the sides to seven points in Saturday’s early kick-off.”

OPINION

Owen clearly feels Spurs’ hopes of winning the Premier League are over even though he is backing them to be victorious against the Gunners. While the former Premier League forward clearly believes Arsenal’s away record will prove telling, Saturday’s clash is set to be a close encounter. Spurs surprisingly have dropped the ball in their bid to win the Premier League title as no one would have predicted them to suffer back-to-back defeats after seeing how consistent they had been this season. Yet while many Tottenham fans would have given up when it comes to hoping to win the Premier League this season, they will still raise their eyebrows over Owen’s remark. For the pundit to imply that Spurs have as much chance of winning Champions League as the Premier League this season is extremely debatable. Spurs may be in a good position to reach the quarter finals, but it still a huge ask for them to lift the trophy as competition is fierce. Whereas Mauricio Pochettino’s side could still get back in the title race through their own work as they could take points off both Manchester City and Liverpool.
