Jurgen Klopp has said that he respects Tottenham for not making transfers for the sake of it and labelled them a “real football team”.

Klopp was talking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the huge game against Liverpool on Sunday.

He was quoted by Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce and said, “In a country of transfers, they didn’t do transfers and that’s a big headline. They are a real football team. If you have the right team together you don’t need to be busy in the market. I respect their way a lot.”

OPINION

Tottenham haven’t brought in any new blood in the last two transfer windows, much to the frustration of fans. There was talk that they couldn’t find the players that would strengthen their squad, but you could also look at this as saying they couldn’t afford the players that would improve their squad. Liverpool are on top of the league after buying Virgil van Dijk and Alisson – neither of whom came cheap. Tottenham are 15 points behind and are struggling in midfield and in defence. The new stadium will open on Wednesday and, to be fair, that’s looking amazing, but the side effects have been a team that’s definitely weakened since Kyle Walker was sold to Man City. Sunday’s game is one of the biggest tests of the season for Liverpool. If they can beat Spurs and then beat Chelsea a fortnight later, the pressure will be on Man City as they prepare to face Man United. Klopp might have another reason to be happy that Tottenham didn’t sign any players this Sunday.
