Gary Lineker has said he “Cannot wait for these games” after the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals were made on Friday morning.

There were four English teams in the draw and a couple of other teams – Juventus and Barcelona – that they all wanted to avoid.

Tottenham avoided both of them but landed an all-English tie against Pep Guardiola’s Man City side.

The full draw is:

  • Tottenham v Man City
  • Ajax v Juventus
  • Liverpool v Porto
  • ManUnited v Barcelona

Lineker delivered his verdict, along with two clapping emojis, on his personal Twitter page after the draw.

OPINION

Lineker is right, the draw couldn’t have been much better for neutrals, although Liverpool might be the only English side who are truly happy with their opponents. They’ve got a winnable tie against Porto, before facing either Man United or Barcelona in an epic semi-final. That could also set-up an all-English final against either Tottenham or Man City. There are some awesome matches to look forward to as the Champions League finally gets to the exciting games. Man City are still the heavy bookies favourites after the draw, followed by Juventus, then Barcelona and Liverpool. Tottenham have fallen back to 20/1 which pits them as the huge outsiders. However, an all-English tie is actually somewhat of a leveller and that tie could go either way. One thing is certain, it’s going to be an absolute cracker. And ironically, with the Premier League game thrown in as well, Tottenham will play Man City three times in 10 days. That’s what you call season-defining.
