Adrian Durham blasted Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino for avoiding taking responsibility when results don’t go in favour of his side.

The talkSPORT host shared that he thought the Spurs boss tended to point the blame elsewhere and claimed he didn’t find it at all clever or something that you could admire.

Durham shared that he wanted Pochettino to take responsibility for the job he was doing as he always takes the plaudits and praise when things are going well.

“He points the blame elsewhere and I don’t particularly like that,” said Durham on talkSPORT (Monday March 11th, 16:28).

“I want him to take responsibility for the job he is doing, he takes all the plaudits when everyone loves him, but soon as it goes wrong he points the finger elsewhere, oh it’s not me, it’s about what other people are doing at the football club.

“And that’s not clever, you can’t admire that surely?”

OPINION

Pochettino comes across as one of the most honest managers in the Premier League and he regularly holds his hands up when he makes a mistake. While the manager didn’t overly blame himself for the 2-1 lost to Southampton why should he? Pochettino fielded a team more than capable of being the Saints, yet his players let him down. Spurs were dominating that game but failed to convert their chances, before allowing the Saints successfully back into the match in the second half without so much of a whimper. Far too often in football the buck lies with the manager and it’s actually refreshing at Spurs, that at times, Pochettino isn’t hung out to dry for every disappointment. While Durham is wrong to put Pochettino on blast, he is right to say it isn’t overly admirable to point blame elsewhere. The only issue is who he used is a terrible example to make his case.
