Tottenham supporters absolutely slaughtered Kieran Trippier at Wembley when he sent in a “wild” cross in the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal, according to a BBC journalist.

Correspondent Phil McNulty reported on his personal Twitter account how the Spurs faithful were seething following the right-back’s massively over-hit delivery from out wide.

Trippier played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s clash as Tottenham came from a goal down to share the spoils through a Harry Kane second-half penalty.

OPINION

Trippier’s performance was always going to be under the microscope after his calamitous error against Chelsea on Wednesday, when he scored one of the most memorably horrific own goals of modern times. He was subsequently savaged on social media and many fans were unhappy that he retained his place in the starting XI against Arsenal today, despite the availability of Serge Aurier. The reason was probably because Mauricio Pochettino returned to a three-man defence, with Trippier’s superior attacking ability seeing him get the nod over Aurier for the right wing-back role. Trippier had a reasonable match but failed to make the most of some excellent positions in open play. His lack of dribbling ability meant he constantly kept turning back inside rather than take on his opponent, usually Nacho Monreal, on the outside. Trippier’s deliveries were also below the standard that made him one of the best in the position in the Premier League last season.
