Tottenham have been handed a massive fitness boost with the news that Dele Alli has returned to first-team training.

The significant fitness update was delivered by Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick ahead of the Champions League clash against Dortmund.

However, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, Alli is highly unlikely to be back for the game on Tuesday night.

More good news came from Eric Dier and Harry Winks, who both travelled with the squad and are fit again for selection.

OPINION

Tottenham have really missed Dele Alli’s creativity and goals. Kane is the main man at Spurs and his absence made the most headlines, but Tottenham actually won every game while he was out. Alli is a lot harder to replace and he’s now missed the last six league games. Dortmund will come too soon for Alli but he could well be in contention for the game against Southampton on Saturday. Tottenham shouldn’t miss him on Tuesday night. We’re not saying that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are already in the quarter-finals of the Champions League but it would be a huge upset if they go out after holding a 3-0 lead. Dortmund will be pushing for goals from the outset but just the one away goal would surely put the tie beyond them, and with Dortmund having to push forwards there should be plenty of chances. One away goal means that Dortmund have to score five – a task that’s surely too much even given the support of the yellow wall.
