Alan Shearer drooled over Wolves striker Raul Jimenez following his weekend masterclass against Manchester United.

Speaking to the Sun, the Premier League’s record goalscorer hailed the 27-year-old as the shining light of Nuno Espirito Santo’s immensely impressive side.

“What a season their centre-forward Raul Jimenez is having,” Shearer told the Sun. “He has formed an impressive partnership with Diogo Jota. He is so good at holding the ball up and Jota’s pace complements him really well.

“At the back Conor Coady has been a consistent thorn in the side of opposition strikers and cannot be far away from an England call-up. Wolves have a lot to shout about right now.”

OPINION

By early December, Jimenez had scored three Premier League goals and, while looking a decent spearhead who could hold the ball up and bring others into play, he did not appear the regular scorer Wolves needed. How wrong that assessment proved to be be. The 69-times Mexico international is the classic multi-dimensional forward who does everything really well, a kind of overseas-reared Harry Kane. He can head the ball, play with his back to go, run in behind, spin off defenders with clever movement, and finish expertly from a range of angles and distances. Should Wolves trigger the £30million clause to make his loan permanent, that would now appear a bargain deal. Jimenez has scored 15 goals from 35 matches for the Midlands giants, supplemented by a mighty impressive seven league assists, and the question must not be, ‘is he good enough for Wolves?’ But, ‘are Wolves good enough for Jimenez?’
