Newcastle United could see as many as seven names leave this summer in a potential exodus from St James’ Park, according to journalist Chris Waugh.

The Chronicle reporter claimed in a question and answer session held on the newspaper’s website (11:47) that a mix of senior stars and fringe figures from the first team are all facing the prospect of leaving Tyneside for a multitude of reasons.

It is stated that loan pair Antonio Barreca and Kenedy are both facing a serious fight to see their temporary stays turned permanent, Joselu and Rob Elliot are both up for sale, while Mohamed Diame’s contract situation could see him depart on a free.

Two other midfielders face uncertain futures, Isaac Hayden still angling for a move down south to be with his family and Jonjo Shelvey facing an exit if a decent offer comes the Magpies’ way.

Opinion

Some big names facing a departure from Newcastle this summer and it surely means that the Magpies have got to dip their toes quite deep into the pool that is the summer transfer window if they want to have a decent squad for next season. Of course the likes of Shelvey and Hayden could both seal eight figure transfer fees after their performances at St James’ Park which would do the club’s hopes of replacing them the world of good, while there will not be too many tears shed if Kenedy and Barreca do not return – their exits freeing up space for more loan arrivals in the summer. Joselu and Elliot might be up for sale but there has got to be interested suitors if they are to go and even then they are unlikely to bring in much money. Perhaps the biggest loss would be Diame on a free, the midfielder worth a lot to Newcastle in the team with his physical presence and energy.
