Liverpool star Andy Robertson has been ruled out of Scotland’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Kazakhstan on Thursday as he has to undergo dental surgery, according to Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster claim the 25-year-old will miss the fixture in three days’ time but could recover in time to feature against St Marino on Sunday.

Robertson, who is the Scotland captain, has been a mainstay for Premier League title hopefuls and Champions League quarter-finalists Liverpool this season.

OPINION

Given these two Scotland fixtures are hardly against European superpowers, it is understandable Robertson and Liverpool’s medical staff consider it an opportune time to cure his dental issue. Alex McLeish’s side could not have an easier start to their European qualifying campaign, and they should have enough quality in their squad to cope comfortably without Robertson, who, along with Kieran Tierney, is one of the two outstanding players in Scotland. Given the level that the Liverpool left-back has played at this season, he is probably now out on his own. There has not been a better and more consistent left-sided defender in Europe this season than the 25-year-old, who has taken his game to a new level under Jurgen Klopp. Roberton is developing into the complete full-back, able to defend and attack with equal precision. He is vital to the way Liverpool play, with the full-backs high up the pitch, and his industry, superbly-timed overlaps and penetration, make him an untouchable in the side.
