Ray Parlour shared he understood why some West Ham fans opted to leave the London Stadium early during the 4-3 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The former Arsenal player shared that when you consider that the Hammers didn’t look bothered against Cardiff the previous week and that they went 3-1 down to the Terriers, he could see why some left.

However Parlour added that he personally wouldn’t have left as due to Huddersfield Town’s defensive record, he thought the Hammers still had a still of a result even when they were 3-1 down.

“To be fair, West Ham against Cardiff the week before they were so poor, they lost the game, when you look at the performances…they just didn’t look bothered,” said Parlour on talkSPORT (Monday March 18th, 7:39am).

“And they lost, Cardiff wanted it more, so Cardiff won the game.

“So when you go 3-1 down at home to Huddersfield a lot of fans would have thought phwoar I have had enough of this, and I can see why people left…but I would never leave.

“You can leave five minutes before the end but depending on the result, if you’re 3-1 down, 4-1 down, 5-1 down, you’re not going to come back, but at that stage you still have a chance especially with Huddersfield’s defensive record.

“You’ve always got a chance.”

OPINION

Parlour is spot-on with his verdict as he clearly sees both sides of the argument when it comes to Hammers supporters walking out on Saturday. There will be some that criticise West Ham fans for departing early, especially as their side turned the game around, but it was understandable. The Hammers were absolutely awful against Cardiff with a lot of players looking like they were mentally on the beach. This once again seemed to be the case in the first half against Huddersfield. Why should supporters sit through 90 minutes of misery when their team are showing no signs that they are fighting for the cause? While it’s true that the Hammers turned the game around, the comeback was sparked by two players coming off the bench. Experienced duo Samir Nasri and Javier Hernandez entered the game and showed the desire that so many of their teammates lacked on Saturday. While some Hammers fans will be kicking themselves over leaving, others will still feel rightly justified.
