Newcastle United will start to decide on if they will splash out some cash to improve their training ground as well as how much they will give Rafael Benitez to spend in the transfer market as the manager gets the changes he wants at the club, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the decision to shake things up in terms of the academy staff, with three new roles created for the upcoming season, suggests that the Spanish boss is winning in the battle of wills with owner Mike Ashley and crucially getting what he wants as he weighs up the possibility of staying at the club.

The manager’s contract is out at the end of the season and with hopes of an improved training complex as well as funds for the transfer window, it is stated Newcastle must now choose to pick whether to back the former Liverpool and Real Madrid man, with the Magpies said to be giving him every opportunity to remain.

Opinion

It seems as though the club are starting to realise that Benitez’s contract is actually a bigger deal than they thought and that he is not willing to back down over getting what he wants. Regardless of whether he does remain, he has built up a strong framework from which the Magpies can build upon but the fact of the matter is that this is his project and only he knows which direction he wants to take it in. His pedigree in the dugout suggests means that there are not going to be many of his calibre wiho would be willing to take charge of Newcastle, who are a big club languishing in mid-table under strict and unforgiving management in the boardroom. The board seem to finally be open to the idea of giving him the sort of development and progress he wants and that should go a long way to tying him down on Tyneside. Still, until pen hits paper, there are no guarantees he will remain and that is what panics the Newcastle faithful the most.
