Micky Quinn shared that Mike Ashley was looking for a buyer to pay over £300million and take Newcastle United into the future.

The Magpies legend shared that’s what an interested party needed to deliver in order for the businessman to cash in on the Magpies.

Quinn added that at the moment the Magpies were still on the market but that Ashley had appeared to pull the plug on talks regarding selling the club to Peter Kenyon and his US-based consortium.

“But it looks like Ashley has pulled the plug on the Kenyon talks, some sort of US-based consortium, he gave them an extension as well to put a package together I think it was over £200million quid and that extension has run out so I think at this moment it’s still on the market but Ashley wants a genuine buyer to not only buy it for over £300million quid but take Newcastle United, in his words, into the future and to compete,” said Quinn on talkSPORT (Tuesday March 5th, 17:51).

OPINION

It should be no surprise what Quinn believes Ashley’s demands are as they’re similar to what have been claimed in the past. However it is good to hear that Magpies legend believes the club in still on the market as there was a worrying suggestion circulating that Ashley no longer wanted to sell. The Times previously reported that the businessman had taken the club off the market and this was always likely to spark the wide-spread belief that Ashley may not be going anywhere. While it seems Ashley is no closer to selling the club, Magpies fans just have to cling to the hope that he is still trying. With Rafa Benitez’s side doing well in the league recently and looking like their heading towards securing the club’s Premier League status, hopefully that will lure a buyer to meet Ashley’s demands. A team in England’s top-flight are surely worthy of a buyer investing £300million into buying and it seems very likely that investors should see the potential in the Magpies. The club has an impressive stadium, a huge fanbase and at this moment in time, a very impressive manager at the helm.
