OPINION
What an impact Sean Longstaff has had on Newcastle United. The 21-year-old has enjoyed the kind of meteoric rise usually reserved for comic books and daydreams. After only making his Premier League debut on Boxing Day, the academy graduate had already established himself as a key component of the Magpies’ midfield, and is keeping the like of Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame out of the side. He bagged his first league goal in the 2-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday night, in front of a raucous home crowd who have taken hims straight into their hearts, and to top it all off, he has just been nominated for Player of the Month, as confirmed by the club’s official website. You have to say that it is completely justified. The youngster has been imperious in the centre of the park, playing with a maturity and poise far beyond his years. He uses possession economically and intelligently, has a range of passing that has outstripped the vast majority of his peers over the past month, and is not afraid of getting stuck in and doing the dirty work when it is required of him. Newcastle have a superlative talent on their hands, and it would cap a fairytale few months if he could lift that Player of the Month accolade to put the icing on the cake.

He is only a young lad but has displayed quality and maturity beyond his years. He deserves to win the award and I'm sure he will win many more in the future.

Sean Longstaff nominated for Premier League player of the month. No mention of Declan Rice in there, though… ? Think that says a lot. #whufc #nufc
