Newcastle United midfielder Mo Diame is wanted on a free transfer by clubs from Turkey, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper reports on their website that the 31-year-old is also attracting attention from Spain and Italy, who have been alerted to his contract situation with the Magpies. Diame will trigger a contract extension if he plays three more games, but he is not too keen on the idea.

The report adds that the £45,000-a-week [Spotrac] player has demanded a two year extension instead, as he wants more financial security – but Newcastle are not encouraged by the request.

Good move for Newcastle?

Diame has had a bit of an up and down season with United so far this season, but letting him leave could be the best thing they could do in terms of his playing career. Newcastle have moved on from him due to the likes of Sean Longstaff coming into the fold, so his minutes are going to be limited with him in the side. The fact he is not keen on a one year extension yet the club are not keen on a two year extension throws his future up in the air.

Likely to happen?

Diame departing the club is likely to happen if the club and himself cannot reach a compromise over a new extension. He is likely to play three more games this season, but he does not want just one year. With clubs from Turkey lingering with a free transfer possibly on the cards, do not be surprised if he does leave this summer. Diame and Newcastle obviously want different things, and that clearly is not going to work.
