Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has exceeded expectations at Old Trafford since he was drafted in as interim manager following Jose Mourinho.

There’s been a big call for him to be given the job permanently and although Man United had said they wouldn’t announce anything until the end of the season, that could be set to change.

According to the Sun, the recent defeats to Arsenal and Wolves haven’t changed the minds of the Man United board and they could be set to announce Solskjaer as the new permanent manager in the next few days.

What a brilliant idea. If the decision has been made, why wait? It might be a bit of a complicated issue, with Solskjaer set to return to Molde at the end of this season, but that would surely just be a financial issue.

Man United have been a completely different team under Solskjaer and he just seems to be the right man at the right time.

The incredible Champions League comeback against PSG was the proof that the good times are on their way back to Old Trafford. It might be a tough ask for them to go on and win it, but there’s a real chance that United could qualify for the Champions League next season via the top four – something that was unthinkable when Jose Mourinho left.

That would be over and above what the Man United board would have expected but it’s a definite possibility. And we think that announcing Solskjaer in the next few days would give his side a huge boost as they prepare for the last eight games of the season.

There are some tough games left – against Man City, where United can potentially be title deciders, and Chelsea, not forgetting the double-header with Barcelona.

The players are already right behind Solskjaer and installing him as the new permanent manager now will give them the best possible chance of finishing a season, which was looking like it would be a disaster, on a high.
