Harry Redknapp has revealed that a video on Tuesday of Jurgen Klopp’s time at Borussia Dortmund has “made me more confident” about Liverpool’s title chances.

The Merseyside giants slipped to second in the Premier League table after drawing at Everton on Sunday, their fourth draw in six matches in the competition.

But Redknapp is convinced that Klopp’s character and personality can help Liverpool end the season at the Premier League summit.

Speaking on BT Sport 2’s live coverage on Tuesday night 7.34pm), after watching a video of Klopp during his extensive spell in the Bundesliga, Redknapp said: “Fantastic. Seeing that video made me more confident about Liverpool winning the league this year, looking at Klopp.

“He really inspires you doesn’t he? He’s got a great personality and what he did here [Dortmund], with that young team, is amazing.”

OPINION

Klopp’s status as a two-times Bundesliga winner hardly gives him the title edge over Pep Guardiola, who has not only two three Bundesliga crowns, but also three more in Spain and one in England with current club Manchester City. Nevertheless, Klopp’s extrovert personality, upbeat character and mad-scientist smile give him an aura that few managers can match. Players respond to him, from rising stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold to those senior men he wraps in bear hugs win, lose or draw, and coaxes the maximum from. Klopp has taken Liverpool to new heights this season, but there is a sense he needs a trophy, badly, as tangible proof of how he has transformed the team into one that is respected across the globe once again. There have been plenty of near-misses so far, most notably in last May’s Champions League final, but it is undeniable Liverpool are getting closer, and fans will love the respected Redknapp’s claim.
