Liverpool moved into the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night, with a hugely impressive win against a disappointing Bayern Munich side.

Sadio Mane scored two goals, with one from Virgil van Dijk, in a 3-1 win and Robbie Fowler delivered his verdict on Twitter on Thursday morning.

He said that Mane was “absolutely immense last night” and added “what a win”.

The draw for the quarter-finals takes place on Friday with all four English teams still left in.

OPINION

Mohamed Salah was the man for Liverpool last season but he’s been out of sorts this campaign. Luckily for Liverpool, Mane has stood up and taken the mantle, becoming the main man for Jurgen Klopp with 19 goals in 37 games, but eight in the last eight in the Premier League and a brace last night. He’s going to need to keep that form up for the rest of the season, with Liverpool still fighting for the two biggest prizes. Liverpool are one point behind Man City in the Premier League and Pep Guardiola’s men are still in the hunt for the Champions league trophy too. If they can avoid each other in the Champions League draw and stay in touch until the last game of the season in the league, we could be set for an unlikely and unprecedented end-of-the-season double between the two best teams in the league. That would be incredible.
