OPINION

Georginio Wijnaldum scored his fifth goal of the season in Holland’s 4-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win over Belarus on Thursday night. Remarkably, three of those strikes have come in the orange jersey of the national team. International fans could barely believe their eyes as the midfielder, who usually gets a nose bleed when in the box during Liverpool games, scored for the third time in consecutive games for Holland, following up Nations League strikes against France in November and Holland in October. The recurring theme on Twitter is that the 28-year-old is a “different beast” to the one who combines the play so effectively for his club and is an integral member of the side, to the free-scoring, ruthless operator for his country. Some suppositioned that Wijnaldum is given more of a licence to roam freely for Holland, and that he plays higher up the pitch. Whatever the reason, Liverpool could do with Gini being a penalty-box genius in the final two months of the season.
