Jim White joked that once Ian Holloway was back in management that he was going to buy Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie for £50million.

The talkSPORT host made the cheeky remarks as the ex-Queens Park Rangers boss continued to heap praise on the 29-year-old Magpies player while interviewing him.

“Ollie told me that when he’s back in management he is going to buy you for £50million if that’s okay with you Matt?” said White on talkSPORT (12:15, Monday March 18th).

This prompted Ritchie to share that he’d wait for Holloway’s call and the former QPR boss shared that while White was joking he’d take Ritchie “all day long” as he believes the winger is an “absolute credit” to the game.

OPINION

Ritchie seemed to enjoy being interviewed by Holloway and White on Monday afternoon, and even was rather witty by saying he’d wait for the currently unattached manager’s call. The former QPR manager was rightly full of praise for Ritchie as the 29-year-old has consistently delivered the goods for the Magpies. Just like Holloway stated, Ritchie is an absolute credit to the game as he is a constant professional and is always seen giving his all for Rafa Benitez’s side. While the 29-year-old regularly sees his teammates steal the headlines that shouldn’t see him overlooked. Although it is Ritchie that everyone is talking about after the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth as the midfielder scored a stunning goal against his former side to rescue a point at the death. Hopefully that match-winning moment will serve Ritchie well in the coming weeks and he continues to get everyone talking. Who knows perhaps a £50million move to a Holloway managed team is in his future after all; as stranger things have happened.
